In a category overflowing with team coverage of hurricane-induced floods, the Laredo Morning Times' effort stands out. Not only did the paper provide advance coverage of the coming high water, it threw its staff resources into reporting all aspects of the flood that apparently still caught officials and residents by surprise. Of particular note was the real-time reporting on the Times' website that helped verify information or defuse rumors as area rivers and lakes rose dramatically. Especially notable was the photography in the wake of the flooding, which went beyond the typical wide shot of inundated homes and swamped cars to the faces of the victims.
