This story was a terrific read about an event that few, if any of us, will witness. John Tompkins showed us what it was like to witness an execution. His report could have been dark and maudlin, but wasn't. It included observations from key people who knew the person executed, and very good details on the events of the day and the events of the 10 years that led up to the execution. I also liked the details about the drugs used to stop the defendant's heart. This reporter paid attention to detail.
