The Victoria Advocate's series on scent dogs did exactly what newspapers were created to do: shine a light on possible wrongdoing. While the public may be comforted by hardworking law enforcement efforts, it is better served by knowing that law enforcement is working not just to close as many cases as possible, but to solve crimes correctly, without robbing innocent people of their civil rights in the name of justice.
